(i) SC: May consider Kejriwal’s interim bail due to polls:

SC on Friday said it may consider if interim bail could be granted to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal or not in the view of polling in the capital in three weeks, as deciding on the plea made by the AAP supremo may take time due to larger issue related to the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act).

(ii) SC to Centre: Furnish data on GST notices and arrests:

Supreme Court has asked the centre to furnish details of issuance of notices and arrests done under the provisions of the Goods and Service Tax Act, saying it may interpret the law and lay down appropriate guidelines to avoid any harassment of citizens by depriving their liberty.

(iii) Pepper Spray a ‘dangerous weapon’, says HC:

Citing a US court ruling, the Karnataka HC observed recently that pepper spray was a dangerous weapon, and refused to quash investigation in a criminal case registered against a person and his wife. They were accused of engaging in verbal and physical fight with some labourers working on their compound wall during which the wife allegedly used pepper spray.

(iv) Woman gets 4-yr prison after man jailed for 4yrs on fake rape charge:

Additional district court in Bareilly booked a woman under IPC section 195 (giving false or fabricated evidence with intention to procure conviction) for changing her statement and turning hostile in a confinement and rape case. The man who was booked in 2019 for kidnapping and raping the girl, then 15, had spent more than 4yrs in jail and lost wages equivalent to Rs 5.88Lac, which is to be paid by the women.

(v) We don’t want you to run govt if given bail, SC tells Kejriwal:

Amid stiff opposition from ED, which said granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal would send the wrong message that some accused were more equal before the law, Supreme Court reserved its order and observed that the PMLA case linked to the alleged excise policy scam concerned “extraordinary situations” where the accused was an elected CM and not a “habitual offender”.

(vi) Sufficient material to charge Brij Bushan Charan Singh, says court:

A Delhi court on Friday ordered framing of charges under sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bushan Charan Singh for allegedly harassing 5 wrestlers. The court stated that there was enough evidence to frame charges against Singh.
Sakshee Malikhh and Bajrang Punia who lead the protest, along with Vinesh Phoghat, said it was a big victory for the wrestler’s struggles.

(vii) SC grants Kejriwal interim bail till June 1:

Describing elections as the lifeline of a democracy, Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to enable him to campaign for his party, and INDIA bloc but imposed strict conditions.
He will be on bail till June 1 and surrender the next day. These 21 days will not make much of a difference, SC observed.

(viii) Muzaffarnagar slapping: SC asks UP to pick senior IPS officer to conduct prosecution:

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the UP govt to nominate a senior IPS officer to “conduct prosecution properly” in last year’s case of an eight- year- old boy, who was repeatedly slapped by his classmates after provocation from the teacher of a private school in Muzaffarnagar.

(ix) Registration of will not mandatory in UP, HC says:

Registration of will is not necessary in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad high court ruled on May10. UP govt had made registration of will mandatory in 2004. “Will in UP is not required to be registered and no will that is not registered will be deemed void, whether it was executed before or after the UP Amendment Act, 2004”, the court said.

(x) Medical student who got admission unfairly can hold degree: HC

The Bombay HC held that a student who wrongly gained admission to an MMBS degree course in a top Mumbai college in 2012 as an OBC on a non-creamy layer certificate based on false data and suppression of information, but observing that doctors are needed, it did not cancel her admission as she had completed the course.
